SCORPIOS BODRUM

“Harmonising the Boundaries Between the Natural and the Manmade”

Located on a 75,000-square-meter peninsula along Turkey's stunning Aegean coast, Scorpios Bodrum is a boutique resort and beach club that harmoniously blends architecture, nature, and human interaction into a sustainable retreat. The project is a modern reinterpretation of a traditional Aegean village, integrating natural elements, local culture, and luxury into an immersive experience. The architecture emphasizes a connection with the environment, prioritizing sustainability and minimal ecological impact while celebrating the unique spirit of Bodrum.

The master plan of Scorpios Bodrum is inspired by the organic layout of an Aegean village, with winding paths, communal spaces, and a variety of amenities that cater to different needs. The resort comprises twelve island villas, each uniquely oriented to capture uninterrupted views of the turquoise waters. In addition to the villas, the resort features an event terrace, reception, bazaar, club house, restaurant, beach club, and a Ritual Space for wellness activities.

One of the key design principles of Scorpios Bodrum is its relationship with light. The resort is designed to be a living canvas that changes with the movement of the sun, from the soft glow of sunrise to the golden hues of sunset. This approach is particularly evident in the placement of the Ritual Space on the east coast, where it faces the rising sun, and in the event areas on the northern side, which are positioned to take full advantage of the sunset views. The beach club, located on the calm waters of Cennet Bay, offers a serene setting for relaxation and socializing.

The architectural design draws heavily on local building traditions, with 80 cm thick masonry stone walls that echo the construction techniques of nearby old towns. These walls, crafted from stones collected on-site, provide both structural integrity and a sense of authenticity. The use of natural materials like stone and wood throughout the project enhances its sustainability and strengthens its connection to the surrounding landscape. Shading elements, carefully integrated into the design, offer climate control and create comfortable indoor and outdoor spaces.

The villas at Scorpios Bodrum are designed to foster a strong connection between interior and exterior spaces. Each villa features spacious terraces, private pools, and green roofs that promote biodiversity and passive climate control. The green roofs not only reduce the heat island effect but also blend the buildings into the natural environment, making the resort feel like an organic extension of the landscape. The interiors are designed to be both luxurious and understated, with a focus on natural materials and textures that reflect the region's aesthetic.

Sustainability is a core consideration in the design of Scorpios Bodrum as well. The project minimizes its environmental impact by selecting a site with previous construction and reusing 95% of existing materials as aggregate for new construction. The landscape design emphasizes plant biodiversity, incorporating local species and planning efficient irrigation systems that utilize recycled water from gray water systems. This commitment to sustainability extends to every aspect of the resort, from the extensive green roofs to the careful protection of green areas.
